Horizons of Lightness is an ongoing body of work exploring lightness as a condition of being—a movement from inner density toward openness.
The sea embodies the material world and the sky the spiritual realm. Their convergence at the horizon evokes the passage from imagination into tangible reality: the moment when dreams begin to take form. The horizon becomes a threshold where the visible and the imagined meet.
Papernaya’s architectural training informs the spatial language of the series. Depth, proportion and the relationship between open space and its boundaries shape each composition. The horizon guides the gaze, while measured colour transitions evoke openness, suspension and quiet expansion.
Situated between abstraction and landscape, the paintings invite a fluid experience of space. Reflections and dissolving boundaries allow the gaze to move between depth and surface, distance and presence.
Across the series, subtle shifts in colour and form sustain this sense of transition. Painting becomes a space of contemplation, where inner experience and the external world converge.
