ELENA PAPERNAYA

About

Elena Papernaya is a ccontemporary artist born in Ufa, Russia. She currently live and work between Monaco and France.

Papernaya’s works are the part of private collections in New York, London, Zurich, Paris, Stockholm, Brussell, Moscow, Monaco, Buenos Aires.

She is a member of the National Committee of A.I.A.P./UNESCO in Monaco.

Rooted in a personal search for lightness as a lived necessity, her practice reflects an ongoing movement away from inner tension toward clarity, openness, and trust. Painting becomes a way of navigating uncertainty, allowing weight and density to gradually give way to a more spacious sense of presence.

The series Horizons of Lightness emerged from this process. In Papernaya’s work, the horizon is not a geographical line, but a perceptual threshold — a point where memory, emotion, and the present moment converge. Existing between landscape and inner space, the paintings unfold through colour and rhythm, forming a quiet, fluid visual language.

Papernaya approaches painting as an act of contemplation. Her works do not impose meaning, but offer a pause — an open space inviting the viewer to slow down, sense, and reconnect with their own experience of lightness.
